Definition
Advantage+ catalog ads (formerly Dynamic Product Ads, DPA) are ads that automatically pull products from your catalog and show each user the items most relevant to them — for example products they've viewed or added to cart.
Also called: Advantage+ catalog, Dynamic Product Ads, DPA, Catalog ads
01Feed and signal are the prerequisite
Catalog ads personalise at scale: instead of one static ad, they dynamically show the right products to the right user. But they rest on two things — a clean, complete product catalog (titles, images, price, stock status) and a solid pixel/CAPI signal, so Meta knows what the user has viewed or bought.
They're used both for retargeting (show the item the customer abandoned in the cart) and for broader prospecting via Advantage+. If the catalog is messy or the signal is patchy, the ads show the wrong products — so feed work and tracking aren't optional extras but the foundation.
Frequently asked questions
What do Advantage+ catalog ads need to work?+
A clean, complete product catalog and a solid pixel/CAPI signal, so Meta knows what each user has viewed or bought. Without them, the dynamic ads show the wrong products.
Are DPA and Advantage+ catalog the same thing?+
Yes — Advantage+ catalog ads is Meta's newer name for what used to be called Dynamic Product Ads (DPA). The principle is the same: products are pulled dynamically from the catalog and matched to the user.
