Definition
Google Merchant Center is the platform where you upload and manage your product feed, so products can appear in Shopping ads, Performance Max and free product listings.
Also called: Merchant Center, Google Merchant Center, GMC
01The feed's quality control
Merchant Center is the gate all Shopping budget has to pass through. Here the feed is validated against Google's requirements: correct titles, prices, availability, GTINs, images and product categories. Disapproved or flagged products don't show — so an error in Merchant Center can silently pull an entire product group out of advertising, without it being visible in the campaign itself.
That's why Google work often starts here: cleaning up diagnostics, ensuring valid GTINs, avoiding price mismatches between feed and website, and keeping the feed fresh. A healthy Merchant Center is the prerequisite for bidding and feed optimisation to work at all.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my products getting disapproved in Merchant Center?+
Typically due to price mismatches between feed and website, missing or invalid GTINs, broken image links, or policy issues. Disapproved products don't show in the ads, so the diagnostics should be checked regularly.
What is a GTIN, and why does it matter?+
A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number, e.g. EAN/UPC) is the product's unique ID. Correct GTINs help Google match your products to searches and can improve visibility and performance in Shopping.
